Water Filtration Unit

Clean, potable water is one of our most basic needs, and if you had to hand filter your water for any length of time you would find it to be quite time consuming to obtain the quantity of water required for yourself by using a manual pump filtration unity as most commonly sold at outdoor equipment stores.  When your water requirement increases due to additional people or greater demand for clean water, you would find it to become challenging to produce enough filtered water for your needs.

The Water Filtration Unit I have built relies on the same filters I use every day to filter my own drinking water.  9″ tall carbon element filters are standard in many of today’s gravity fed water filtration units.  For this project I use one of these trusted, reliable filters.  There are a few companies who make these, and the best available right now is probably the ProPur PurOne filter.  It is a high performance filter with fluoride filtering capability built in.  Other carbon-elements can be found a bit cheaper than these and will filter water just as well in a natural environment.  These are essentially larger versions of the ones you will find in a camp store, and can be cleaned by using a scotch brite pad to remove a layer of the carbon filter material.

ProPur PurOne – $144 for 2 9″ filter units.  Smaller ones available.
