John said all these small pieces were a pain to paint. But it's better than painting them on the car, which is what the last owner did. It pulls away and leaves nothing but a big mess. Some things are worth doing right, but no, mounting them back up to the car was no fun, either.

John lays the clear down "quite flat" he says.

John taught me a lot about a lot of things. But one in particular was how to correctly polish a car. After I sanded the whole thing with 1500 grit by hand, then with 2000 grit with a machine, he taught me how to polish out the swirl marks. Less is more when it comes to compound, as you use the heat from the foam pad to flow the clear to get your new finish glassy smooth.

I removed the inner wheel well plastic, cleaned and painted it, and the screws flat black.
